Miniature Pinscher

Little Pawz -- Miniature Pinscher
MINIATURE PINSCHER

Good Points

  • Delightful hackney gait
  • Easy to look after
  • Fearless
  • Good house dog
  • Intelligent
  • Rarely moults
  • Suitable for city or country life

Take Heed

  • Do not overfeed
The Miniature Pinscher, sometimes called, 'King of the Toys,' makes an ideal pet for the city dweller, who, nonetheless, wants a lively sporting companion, not adverse to an occasional days romp in the countryside. It will follow a scent and give a good account of itself in obediance competitions. The breed's hackney gait is a delight to watch, as it trots along like a dainty little horse. It has the added advantages of rarley moulting and of requiring the minimum of attention to its coat.

Size
Height: 10 – 12 inches (25 – 30 cm)

Coat and Colour
Coat smooth, hard and short, straight, and lustrous, closely adhering to and uniformly covering the body.
Colour
(a) Solid red or stag red.
(b) Lustrous black with sharply defined tan, rust-red markings on cheeks, lips, lower jaw, throat, twin spots above eyes, and chest, lower half of forelegs, inside of hind legs and vent region, lower portion of hocks and feet. Black pencil stripes on toes. (c) Solid brown or chocolate with rust or yellow markings.

Exercise
The Miniature Pinscher will exercise itself in a reasonable-sized yard or accompany its owner on a day-long trek. This adaptable little dog will be happy living in a flat and being taken for walks around the park, or living a free, country life.

Grooming
The Miniature Pinscher's coat will gleam with a daily brushing and rub down with a chamois.

Feeding
Recommended would be 1/2 can (13.3 oz 376 g size) name-brand dog food, with a biscuit, or 1 1/2 cups dry dog food. Always provide an ample supply of fresh water for your Miniature Pinscher.

Origin and History
The Miniature Pinscher is not a smaller version of the Dobermann Pinscher, but a much older breed descended from the German Smoot-haired Pinscher. It is suggested that the Italian Greyhound and the Dachshund contributed to its make-up. It achieved pedigree status by the Pinscher-Schnauzer Klub in 1895.

The Miniature Pinscher tail is docked, and its cropped ears can be pricked or dropped. Indeed if it were not for these characteristics and colour variations, one might be forgiven for mistaking it for a Toy Manchester Terrier.

Celebrity Owners
Joey Fatone of Nsync owns a Miniature Pinscher named Nakita.
